Munsyari: Remote, Rugged, Rewarding

y

Intermediate

A seven-day journey into the heart of the Kumaon Himalayas — from forest retreats to riverside safaris and finally, the last village before the border. Munsyari is flanked by the towering Panchachuli peaks and is your gateway to high-altitude treks, local crafts, ancient temples, and snow-fed rivers. This one’s for those who want to travel deeper — not just higher.

Drag

One road. Many moments. Here’s how.

Day 1 – Forests & First Light

Drive from Delhi to Binsar (approx. 10 hrs). Surrounded by deodar forests and zero-point views, Binsar is a quiet stop to catch your breath and begin the shift to the mountains.

Day 2 – Into the Greater Himalayas

Set out for Munsyari (190 km / 6.5 hrs). The road curves past Chaukori and Birthi Falls — where a short trek leads to a roaring curtain of water. Arrive in time to catch the Panchachuli at dusk.

Day 3 – A Village of Peaks & Wool

Explore Munsyari town and beyond. Visit the Munsyari museum, and head to Darkot village to witness local pashmina weaving. Wrap up with a riverside picnic by the Goriganga.

Day 4 – Above the Snow Line

Trek to Khaliya Top (11,500 ft). Meadows, peaks, and panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Rajrambha, and more. This is a beginner’s window into serious Himalayan trekking — scenic, accessible, and deeply satisfying.

Day 5 – Hill Roads & Wider Vistas

Depart for Kausani via Kapkot and Bageshwar (170 km / 6 hrs). Check into a ridge-top retreat. Gaze at Trishul and Nanda Devi, or visit the Ashram where Gandhi wrote Anasakti Yoga.

Day 6 – Into the Wild

Drive to Jim Corbett National Park (160 km / 5 hrs). Settle into your jungle lodge for a close encounter with India’s most iconic forest — and its elusive tigers.

Day 7 – Safari & Send-off

Wake up early for a jeep safari through Corbett’s wilderness. Watch for elephants, deer, leopards, and birds along the Ramganga. Return to the lodge for breakfast before heading home.
