The Pugmark Trail – Motorcycle Tour

Tour Highlights

Pugmark trail is a fantastic ride up to the lakes of Sattal with highway cruising, riding passed farms, then through the periphery of the Jim Corbett National park, riding through a lush green forest cover as we start our climb up to Nainital enjoying the thrill of riding on winding mountain roads crossing dense Sal, Pine and Oak Forests on the way. We cross nainital and ride to the dense forests around Sattal lakes. Here we park our bikes at a safe house (realising the love for our machines we ensure utmost safety) then we cross a lake by boats, hike up around 100 Mtrs to arrive at a wilderness camp where we sync and absorb raw nature and enjoy an evening filled with sing-song camp-fire. We’re cut away from the rest of the world tonight, NIRVANA!!! Ride to Jim Corbett national on the second day to enjoy some luxury at a Wildlife Resort. Have a relaxed evening to retire early so that we are up early the next morning (quite early, around 5am) to start our Jeep safari into the Corbett National park. Return to the resort for breakfast and ride back home post the same.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Stay at Sattal – Meal included – Dinner

Ride out from Delhi around Sunrise Minus 30 mins. Stop for breakfast at Gajraula which is about 2 Hrs / 100 Kms from Delhi border. Next we take a break at one of the Tried & Tested Dhabas across Bazpur Town (2.5Hrs from Gajraula) and then ride up to Nainital via Kaladungi (1.5Hrs). Pit stop at Nainital for a chai and snack break. Get back on our saddles and ride through Bhowali Junction toward Sattal (1 Hr.).

Day 2 - Stay at Sattal - Meal included – Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner

After a leisurely breakfast we ride out to arrive at Corbett National Park by lunch time. After lunch it’s Siesta Time or one can also try their hands on Table Tennis or any other indoor game. If the sun’s not too harsh you can even use the swimming pool at the resort. Evening we plan to chill again by the bon-fire and retire early so that we are up early the next morning (quite early, around 5am) to start our Jeep safari into the Corbett National park.

Day 3 - Departure day. Meal included Breakfast

Early morning wake (around 5am) and board jeeps to experience a wildlife safari into the Corbett National Park. Aim is spot the elusive striped cat and of course there’s more like the Leopard, Elephant, Chital Deer, Sambar Deer, Hogg Deer, Barking Deer, Wild Boar, Langur, Wild pig, Rhesus Monkey, Jackal and the list goes on. Bird Lovers have a long list of over 600 migrant and resident bird species to list from. Return to the resort for breakfast post which we checkout and ride back for home.

Sattal

A Kumaon village, neighbouring Bhimtal, with a cluster of seven lakes, dense with oak and pine forest and rich in flora and fauna. Located just 35 Kms from Kathgodam and 25 Kms from Nainital. It’s very popular for its’ rich bird life. Spotting a leopard, barking deer or even a sambhar deer is quite common at Sat Tal. It’s a nature filled hill station with great activities like kayaking, bird watching, zip line, zorbing, forest treks etc. Enjoy lake side picnics and star gazing at this serene, green hill station.
State: Uttarakhand
Weather: It’s a pleasant, round the year hill station. In summers light warm clothes would be needed in the evenings, with T-shirts serving well during the days. The temperature s during summers fluctuates between a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 31°C. During the monsoons, Sattal receives average rainfalls in the months of July and August. In the winter months of December, January and February, the weather gets chilly, and the temperature could drop to around 4°C. Closest airport: Technically Pantnagar (66 Kms / 2.15 Hrs) but realistically the only option is Delhi airport (325 Kms / 8 Hrs) Railway Station: Kathgodam railway station, Haldwani railway station and Lal Kuan railway station. (in order of preference). (2-3.5 Hrs / 35-57 Kms) Best time to visit: All round the year. Generally spoken language: Hindi, Kumaoni and Birding. Altitude: 1360 Mtrs ASL approx.

Jim Corbett National Park

One of India's largest, oldest and the most popular Tiger reserves - The Jim Corbett National Park. Sprawled over 1300+ sq Kms of dense bio-diverse forest with the Ramganga and Kosi rivers flowing through it this is actually several different forests in one, ever changing with the changing seasons. Only designated areas in the 520 sq.Kms., out of the total area, are open to tourists. Thera are five zones named Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Domunda and Sonanandi. This tiger reserve is a haven for wild life enthusiasts. 600+ species of birds, apart from the elephants, tigers, leopards, jackals, sambhar deer, spotted deer, hog deer and more. Travelers visiting the park can enjoy jeep safaris with guides / naturalists. Enjoy your stay at a jungle resort bordering the fenced boundary of the reserve.

Weather: The weather in the park is temperate compared to most other protected areas of India. The temperature may vary from 5 °C (41 °F) to 30 °C (86 °F) during the winter and some mornings are foggy. Summer temperatures normally do not rise above 42 °C (104 °F). The park receives heavy rainfall during monsoons (July – September end) and remains closed around this period. Closest airport: Technically Pantnagar (90 Kms / 3 Hrs) but realistically the only option is Delhi airport (270 Kms / 6 Hrs) Railway Station: Ramnagar railway station Best time to visit: October – March Generally spoken language: Hindi, Basic English and Kumaoni. Altitude: 300 Mtrs ASL approx.
