Hassan, Coorg (Kodagu) in Karnataka and Nileshwar in Kerala (or Neeleshwar) are amazing destinations in South India, each offering a unique blend of history, culture and natural beauty. Hassan is a historical city popular for ancient temple complexes, Hoysala Dynasty architecture. Visit Belur, Halebidu, Shravanabelagola Statue, the Manjarabad Fort and the Shettihalli Church. Coorg is a hill station ranging from 3000 – 5000 feet above sea level with coffee plantations, misty landscapes and waterfalls. While at Coorg you may visit the Dubare elephant camp, the Bylakuppe Buddhist Monastery, go hiking on a nature trail and shop for coffee and spices. Neeleshwar is famous for pristine, soft sand and sun-kissed beaches where you get to relax and enjoy ayurvedic massages, visit the Theyyam festival, the Bekal fort and go on a houseboat cruise on the backwaters of North Kerala.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Stay at Bangalore City – Meal included – Breakfast

Arrival at Bangalore Airport and transfer to Taj Airport Hotel – Bangalore. We use this night to relax, refresh, get over the jet lags and get ready for a 4-5 hrs drive to the historical Hoysala Village the following morning. Overnight stay at Bangalore

Day 2, 3 & 4: Stay at Village Resort at Hassan – Meal included – Breakfast & Dinner

Post breakfast on Day 2 we get transferred by air-conditioned vehicle to the Historical City of Hassan (4-5Hrs) where we stay for three nights which gives us two clear days to visit spectacular ancient temples, heritage sites of Belur and Halebeedu, Shravanabelagola, the Manjarabad Fort and the Shettihalli Church. Apart from that we may choose to enjoy village rides by bullock carts, ayurvedic massages at the resort and even enjoy yoga sessions at the resort.

Day 5, 6 & 7: Stay at Coorg – Meal included – Breakfast & Dinner

On Day 5 we depart post a leisurely breakfast by an air-conditioned vehicle for the hill town of Coorg (3.5-4Hrs) spread out on hills ranging from 3000-5000 Ft ASL. At Coorg we enjoy a scenic hill resort stay with nature and coffee plantation walks, visit the Bylakuppe Buddhist Temple (1.5hrs drive from the resort) and we could also enjoy a day visit with lunch to the Dubare Elephant Camp to enjoy some close encounters with elephants (1.5Hrs from the resort). Day excursion to the Madikeri town for the Raja’s Seat and the neighbouring waterfall is also on the cards.

Day 8,9,10 & 11: Stay at a Beach Resort at Neeleshwar – Meal included – Breakfast & Dinner

On day 8 After breakfast we drive down from the hills of Coorg, by road (3-4Hrs) for the sun kissed beaches of Neeleshwar (One of the most pristine, clean and friendly beaches of Kerala) and spend the rest of the days enjoying a relaxing time, swimming, sunbathing, getting ayurvedic massages and of course you may also have morning and evening yoga sessions on the beach. All this along with a houseboat lunch, an interesting hike on a nature trail and if lucky we experience some village festivities/celebrations like Theyyam, for which we get transferred by tuk tuks.

Coorg

Coorg, officially called Kodagu, is one of the most sought after and lush green hill stations of Karnataka. Lying serenely amidst high mountains, Coorg’s landscape stays mostly misty. The natives of the place are Kodavas. Apart from Kannada, the other two main languages of this hill station are Kodagu and Kodava.
Coorg is the largest producer of Coffee in India. Also, it receives one of the highest rainfalls in the country. Low Altitude hills covered in lush green forests and coffee plantations, tea gardens and orange groves, this hill station has mesmerising scenic beauty.
The popular tourist attractions in Kodagu include Bhagamandala, Talakaveri, Nisargadhama, Dubare, Abbey Falls, Iruppu Falls and Nagarahole National Park. Pushpagiri and Brahmagiri in Coorg are ideal for trekking.

Weather: Located in the Western Ghats Coorg is a part of the Tropics with a Tropical Monsoon Climate. Temperatures in the summer months (March to May), hit a high of 35˚C and a lows ranging from 20˚C to 15˚C. The monsoon season (June - August) has heavy rains, as high as 2500 mm to 3500 mm per season.
Closest airport: The closest international airport is Mangalore International Airport- 140 kms. But with few options. Mysore airport is 120 kms away but services domestic flights only. The Bangalore International Airport has the maximum connectivity but is a massive 286 kms away.

Railway station: Mysore Junction Best time to visit September to June is the best and the next best option is October to March. Generally spoken language: The official language in Coorg is Kannada or Canarese. With a high literacy rate Basic English is spoken and understood by most town / city dwellers. Population: 5,60,000 Altitude: 1750 Mtrs approx.

Neeleshwar

Also known as Nileshwaram is the cultural capital of Kasargod district, having a rich cultural heritage with folk arts, temple festivals and sacred groves. Very famous for its pristine beaches and lush green backwaters. The local people are very fond of celebrating festivals with a lot of dance and drama and if your timing is right you could experience the festivals, Theyyam being the most celebrated. At Nileshwar one can also enjoy yoga, ayurveda massages, nature trek, village visits, Houseboat lunch cruise and of course, complete relaxation on the sun kissed, golden sandy beaches.
State: Kerala
Weather: Winters stretch from December to February. During January & February Nileshwar receives least amount of rainfall. November to mid-March the temperature range is 21-32 DegC. Summers are hot and humid stretching from mid-March until May post which the monsoons arrive and the heavy rains come in from June up till September.
Closest Airport: Mangalore (97Kms)
Railway Station: Nileshwar railway station but major train connections are from Kannur (62Kms), Kanhangad (11Kms) and Mangalore (85Kms). Best time to visit: December to February
Language: Malayalam and basic English as the literacy rate is good. Population: 55,000 Altitude: 12 Mtrs ASL.

Hassan

Once ruled by the Hoysala Dynasty, Hassan is the temple architecture capital of Karnataka. The main attractions near Hassan are famous temples of Belur, Halebidu and the towering Gomateshvara Bahubali statue situated at the historical town of Shravanabelagola.
State: Karnataka
Weather: Winter (November to February) Temperature range is 15-28 DegC. Summers (March – May) are warm with high temperatures touching 35 DegC and high and uncomfortable levels of humidity. During Monsoons (June-September) Hassan receives heavy rainfall.
Closest Airport: Mysore is the closest domestic airport (130Kms) and Mangalore is the closest international airport (180 Kms) but the Bangalore international airport is the most viable with the maximum flight options (210Kms) Railway Station: Hassan Junction Best time to visit: November - February Language: Kannada and basic English.
